Just when we think nothing can surprise us anymore, a spy story worthy of James Bond arrives from the US.
Apple helped the US government make a version of the iPod that serves as a spy device.
Former Apple employee David Scheyer, in a lengthy text for Tidbits, revealed that in 2005, two people from Bechtel, on behalf of the Ministry of Energy, contacted Apple.
They allegedly needed help with an iPod that would look and function like a real one, but would have secret sensors inside it to record data.
Only four people knew about the whole project. Engineers helped design and create a special version of the iPod software that would meet the “secret” requirements.
“They wanted to add special devices to the iPod and record data on it, but in a way that was impossible to detect. And the iPod still had to look quite ordinary, ”Scheer explained.
He stressed that Apple did not receive a single dollar for the entire project, but they did it as a “service” for the Ministry of Energy.
Although Scheer never found out exactly what these people were doing with this modified device, he speculates that they may have turned it into a hidden Geiger counter so they could secretly measure the radiation.
That the story is true was confirmed by several other former Apple employees who saw two mysterious visitors. However, Apple does not officially have any data on the “iPod special”.
This story was also confirmed by Tony Fadel , an engineer who is called the “Father of the iPod”.
“There is no doubt that this project was real. “It’s an interesting story of how it all started, and how it was kept secret,” he wrote on his Twitter account.
