Taiwan has always been in conflict with China for its existence and the target of Chinese-funded hackers for many years.
A study conducted by a Taiwanese security firm has revealed how deeply a group of Chinese hackers had been able to penetrate an industry at the core of the Taiwanese economy, hijacking its semiconductor industry.
At the security conference, CyCraft plans to present details of a hacking field that complimented seven Taiwanese chip firms over the past two years.
According to the investigation, a series of deep penetrations called Operation Skeleton “skeleton injector keys” – appeared to steal as much intellectual property as possible, including source code, software development boxes and models. E chip.
“This is a very state-based attack, trying to manipulate Taiwan’s stance and power,” say Chad Duffy, one of CyCraft researchers who has worked on the company ‘s investigation for a long time. The type of wholesale intellectual property theft CyCraft observed “substantially undermines the entire ability of a corporation to do business,” adds Chung-Kuan Chen, another CyCraft researcher, who will present the company’s research on Black Hat today. “It’s a strategic attack on the whole industry.”
The researchers declined to name the victim companies. According to the same sources, hackers appeared to gain initial access to victims’ networks by compromising virtual VPN networks, directly exploiting the weaknesses of the VPN server.
