Your Office applications will no longer support the old browser. Surprisingly, Internet Explorer 11 is not “dead” yet. But Microsoft is trying to end its use.
On Monday, the company announced that Microsoft Office 365 office applications will eventually not run older browser. Microsoft is urging its users to say goodbye to Internet Explorer and switch to the most modern Edge browser.
As the group announced in a blog post, Microsoft 365 applications, including Office applications, will no longer support Internet Explorer 11 as of August 17, 2021. Then it can only be used with Edge.
In the article, Microsoft at least shows understanding of this because the decision may not be well received by everyone, because Internet Explorer 11 has been an integral part of Microsoft since 2013. According to statistics from Net Market-share, it is also used more often than the browser Edge until the beginning of the year. According to these figures, the Edge market share is currently 8 percent of all desktop users. More than 4 percent still use IE.
With the world becoming faster and more complex over the years, new browser technologies would guarantee better, more innovative online experiences. That is why it was decided that its online applications like Outlook, Teams, SharePoint and other programs can only be used through Edge.
